Event Details
Visit this new exhibition from the Visual Arts Museum (Museo de Artes Visuales), MAVI UC, composed of a well-cared selection of almost 50 turbans, headdresses, hardhats, diadems and ancient beanies from inhabitants of the Atacama Desert, with diverse materials and colors such as cotton, vegetal fibers, wood and even leather and feathers. All of this pieces, incredibly well preserved thanks to the extreme dryness of the desert, have in common the transmission of the identities along generations.
The exhibition “Gorros del Desierto de Atacama” allows the appreciation of precolombian headdresses that constitute a unique patrimonial legacy in the world due to its undeniable aesthetic and technical qualities and the capacity of transferring knowledge about the rich history of the settlements on The Andes.
The pieces of this exhibition are part of the collection from Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino and thanks to a collaboration and alliance, it’s been moved to Museo de Artes Visuales MAVI UC.

When: From October 31st, 2024, to March 2nd, 2025. Thursdays to Sundays, from 10 AM to 6 PM.
