The Santiago Public Library is an important cultural institution opened in 2005 in the former building of the Bureau of Government Procurement Supplies. Since then it has become part of the wide range of cultural options available in the Yungay Quarter, as due to its proximity to other venues of similar nature such as museums, parks and cultural centers, it contributes to revitalizing the area where it is located.

The Santiago Public Library renders a valuable service to the community by offering virtual reference services, newspaper and periodicals library, as well as children’s, young people’s, general and audiovisual collections during extended opening hours.

Especially worth of notice is the Children’s Room, geared to zero to seven year olds. It features games, especially-designed furniture, and activities such as “Story Time” or children’s theater.

This is the largest and most modern public library model in the country and the hub from where other cultural services such as Bibliometro and Biblioredes reach out to the community.

Matucana, 151, Santiago.
