Heritage Day 2025


Every last Sunday in May, since 2000, the country has experienced unprecedented activity during Chile’s Cultural Heritage Day, a day characterized by the opening of buildings with history and heritage value; cultural activities and free guided tours. In this way, thousands of people have the opportunity to visit museums, ministries, churches, universities and palaces, in addition to enjoying an intense agenda of panoramas in public spaces.

In 2022, the activity changed its name to Heritage Day, with the aim of highlighting and making visible the plurality of heritages and identities present in Chile. The 2024 version will take place on May 24 and 25 and  we have prepared the following activities:

Saturday, May 24

10:00 AM to 2:00 PM – Palacio Consistorial Tours. Discover the Santiago City Hall building and learn about the history of the emblematic spaces where the city’s main municipal authorities work. The activity begins in the Central Hall and continues through the Office of the Mayor of Santiago and the solemn Hall of Honor. Groups will be organized in order of arrival.
Meeting Point: Palacio Consistorial Municipalidad de Santiago, Plaza de Armas s/n. Plaza de Armas Metro Station Line 3 and 5.

10:00 AM – Ruta de las Iglesias. Join us on a fascinating tour of the Heritage Churches in the Historic Center. This experience will allow you to discover the history and beautiful architecture of Catedral Metropolitana, Basílica de La Merced, Iglesia de San Agustín, and  Iglesia de San Francisco. Limited to 30 participants. REGISTRATION CLOSED

Meeting Point: Tourism Office at Plaza de Armas, Plaza de Armas Metro station, Line 3 and 5 Metro de Santiago.

10:30 AM – Ethnobotanical and Historical Tour. Take part in this tour focused on recognizing Santa Lucía Hill for its heritage, historical, and natural value. This “island hill” has played a key role in the evolution of Santiago, transforming from a rocky outcrop into an urban park. In the late XIX century, Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna led its transformation, adding pathways, gardens, and viewpoints that have made it an iconic space in the city. Limited to 50 participants. REGISTRATION CLOSED. This tour is organized in collaboration with the Subdirección de Medioambiente de la Municipalidad de Santiago. It is suspended in case of rain.

Sunday, May 25

Join guided tours of one of the most visited public parks in the city. During the experience, participants will learn about the history of Santa Lucía Hill and explore its most iconic spots, such as the Neptuno and Caupolicán terraces. Registration required HERE. Limited to 50 participants per tour. It is suspended in case of rain. ONLY SEATS FOR THE 10:00 AM TOUR
