Event Details

As part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coup in Chile, the National Historical Museum invites you to visit the exhibition, "50 years later. Coup in memory". This temporary exhibition is the result of the collaborative work of more than forty institutions and one hundred people interviewed, who have reflected on why it is important for us to live in a democracy, its breakdown and future. The exhibition suggests that this dialogue is essential to improve our coexistence in the present and in the future. Through heritage objects, memories, images, sounds, data, documents and archives, each visitor, but especially today's youth, will be able to become a historian, and understand that it is not necessary to have experienced the facts to have a position about what happened. The exhibition makes available to the public a collection of 127 objects, more than 150 documents and 100 interviews gathered thanks to the collaboration of institutions and people, who participated with objects, documentation, data, images, audiovisual pieces and interviews, to illuminate aspects of this troubled past, about which we still know little, and we need to work together. The exhibition is organized around four reflections: Why democracy? What is it like to live without her? What have we done to get it back? and How do we make the future with a Coup in memory? Where. Museo Histórico Nacional, Plaza de Armas 951 When. From September 1 to March 2023. From Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. free admission
