The Piano Concerto No.1 in D minor by Johannes Brahms was initially conceived as a sonnet for two pianos in 1854, it went through many transformations before becoming a keyboard and orchestra concert. On the other hand, Richard Strauss composed an Alpine Symphony, op64, inspired by experiences of his childhood and an excursion through the Alps. Written for an orchestra of approximately 125 musicians, this symphony constitutes one of the greatest non-operatic compositions of the German composer.
