The MHM's new temporary exhibition called "Ferromodelling, miniature trains" held together with the Chilean Model Railway Association is now open to the public. The exhibition presents a tour of trains of different types and sizes; cars, wagons, moving machines; allusive costumes, engines and parts used in real trains and railways in Chile. Model railroading began at the end of the 19th century, when the development of technology allowed the creation of the first functional scale locomotive in history. Built by Märklin, a girls' toy factory, and presented at the Leipzig Fair in 1891, it was made of tin and worked with a wind-up clock mechanism.  The reinvention of factories after World War II allowed the hobby to spread to the masses and model trains stopped being a toy and became a hobby.
