Event Details
Visit the Chilean Museum of Pre-Columbian Art, the exhibition "Shamanism: Visions out of time", which through representations, objects and visual experiences of extraordinary quality, introduces and brings to the present the shamanic practices of the peoples who inhabited and inhabit America.
This exhibition presents 140 archaeological and ethnographic pieces and audiovisual documents, representative of shamanism in Europe and North America, up to Tierra del Fuego. Through their shapes, materials, images and their ability to inspire contemporary artists, these objects establish a fascinating relationship between shamanism and art.
The exhibition was curated by art historian Constantino Manuel Torres, while the section on Mapuche shamanism was curated by researcher Juan Ñanculef Huaiquinao, a specialist in the tradition and ancestral wisdom of his people.
The museum team worked for five years preparing this exhibition, with an eye on the importance of shamanism in the history of humanity and the fascination that the figure of the shaman and his profession exert in modern society.
