In Paseo Bulnes, in front of La Moneda Palace, is the Crypt where the mortal remains of the hero and father of the country, Bernardo O’Higgins, are located.

This historical and cultural space, with free admission, exhibits a museum display of elements that help illustrate the period of Independence and its consolidation.

In the centre is the marble monument. It was built in Italy, commissioned by Pedro Demetrio O’Higgins, son of the Hero, when Bernardo’s remains were repatriated from Peru in 1869.

Outside the crypt are the tombs of the Chilean Soldier of the Pacific War, remains found in Lima, where the Battle of San Juan de Miraflores took place in 1881 and the tomb of the Soldier of the Fatherland, remains of unknown identity, exhumed from the Military Mausoleum of Santiago. Both represent the Chilean people’s will to serve and their love for their country.

Paseo Bulnes, Santiago.
