The Library of the National Congress of Chile was founded in 1883 through the initiative of Deputy Pedro Montt, with the purpose of supporting legislative work by providing access to specialized information. In 1990, with the restoration of democracy and the relocation of Congress to Valparaíso, the Library experienced significant technological and institutional growth, establishing itself as an essential service for parliamentary activity.
Today, the Library stands as a national leader in legislative information management, research, and technical support for Congress. It has played a key role in advancing transparency, civic education, and citizen participation—such as through its active involvement in the constitutional processes of 2016, 2021, and 2023, by producing specialized content, developing digital platforms, and providing technical expertise. Its collection now exceeds 300,000 titles. The Library’s role has been further strengthened by modernization efforts, digitization projects, the use of information technologies, and strategic planning—all aimed at serving both the parliamentary community and the general public.
