Bordering Parque de Los Reyes, the Galpón de Anticuarios is one of the main antiques market in Santiago, where objects dating from the 19th and 20th centuries may be found.
The space was originally used as a railway machine shop, but with the notable decrease in railway activity in the country, the old sheds were passed on to the State to be used as a depot for streetcars and trolley buses.
The sheds were later purchased by a trade association and were used to set up a car mart. It was only in the 1970s that they became a sort of weekend market place where assorted items could be found.
Starting in the 1980s, this market gradually became specialized in antiques, joining in as a member of a South American circuit of similar fairs, and now offers numberless objects with a history of their own in each of its narrow and peaceful aisles.
