At the end of 60´s at president Eduardo Frei Montalva period, Chile receives as donation from the federal german republic a Carl Zeiss stellar projector model VI, then in the middle of 70’s this device was moved from the education ministry to the technical University (University of Santiago today) for being placed in it´s campus, for it´s definitive location in 1982 Jorge O´Ryan Balbontin rector in those days, order the construction of what we know as the Planetarium building today.

The building designed by the  arquitect Oscar Mac Clure Alamo, was inagurated in March the 14th in 1985.
