Paseo Bulnes

This pedestrian street that is presented as the natural continuation of the Plaza de la Ciudadanía , is part of what is known as the Bulnes-Almagro park Axis of the Civic Neighborhood, an area made up of de la Constitución square , la Moneda Palace, the central sidewalk of the Alameda, the Altar de la Patria Presidente Bulnes avenue and Almagro park.

It is characterized by its great density of buildings of a political-administrative nature, located around the Palacio de La Moneda: one of the most important neoclassical works in Latin America. And this was the proposal for a Civic Center by urban planner Karl Brunner, between 1937 and 1950.

Brunner proposed a space to the north of the La Moneda Palace and another larger one to the south, to give rise to a monumental axis that would house public buildings, in order to enhance the institutionality of the State through the urban space. With that vision, he proposed – among other things – that Central Avenue, now Bulnes, be extended to Santa Isabel Avenue.

Already in the 21st century and as part of the works to celebrate the Bicentennial of the Republic in 2010, the facades of the La Moneda palace were restored and the la Ciudadanía square was remodeled, which was complemented by the remodeling of the plaza next to the south of the Alameda, starting point of the Bulnes walk and where the Bernardo O’Higgins crypt is located.

Currently, Paseo Bulnes is presented as a space that concentrates monumental architecture, specialized shops, offices, cafes and restaurants that make up an interesting gastronomic proposal in the heart of the city.
