Shoemakers on Victoria Street

Address

Victoria Street, between Chiloé and San Diego. Four blocks from Matta Station, Line 3 Santiago Metro.

This sector is an excellent alternative when it comes to shopping for shoes. Here, both shoemakers and craftsmen in leather offer fairly priced well made goods at their workshops and stores.

Over a decade ago, Victoria street was characterized by being home to many factories of fine quality shoes that were sold at large department stores. However, as this sector experienced a downturn in the late 19th century, it was forced to reinvent itself. It was thus that workshops that formerly used to sell raw materials switched to commercializing their own creations.

Nowadays Victoria street is a busy sector visited by thousands of Santiago dwellers keen on buying shoes and leather accessories at an excellent price. In some places you can witness the skill of those creative hands in the store workshops. And you can’t leave Victoria without trying the incredible and tasty empanadas from La Zaranda
